Resealing Granite Seams
To test your surface leave a few drops of water or a wet paper towel on the granite for 10 to 15 minutes doing this in an inconspicuous area.
Resealing granite seams. Seams are typically hidden in places where they would be less noticeable such as next to a sink or refrigerator. Stick each pair of suction cups on either side of the granite seam. If granite slab edges do not happen to meet at a kitchen fixture builders and contractors often put them in areas that may be covered up during typical use such as near a stove or a corner ideal for a dish rack or microwave. Nonetheless granite experts recommend waiting a full 48 hours before wiping a newly sealed granite countertop with anything wet.
We have dark granite countertops i think called ubatuba that were installed in our kitchen when our house was built in 2003 there is one major seam between two slabs on the l shaped main. Test whether the granite needs sealing. Think of it as placing 2 or 3 bridges over the seam with each turnbuckle serving as the bridge span and the suction cups as the bridge piers. Try to space the suction cups an equal distance from the seam roughly 2 3 in 5 1 7 6 cm each.
Depending on how often you use the countertops and how light or dark the granite is you may need to seal it anywhere from every three months to yearly. Although you may find that many countertops do not require being sealed applying a sealer is common practice.
