Replacing Plywood Floor In Fiberglass Boat
Wood and fiberglass in hot summers and frozen cold winters.
Replacing plywood floor in fiberglass boat. Photo d is a piece of plywood from the floor of a boat wreck. Mix and apply fiberglass filler to eliminate any air gaps between the plywood and fiberglass and round off the edges of the plywood. Replace the carpet or use a fiberglass repair kit to finish the surface of the floor. Marine plywood is often used to build boat interiors and to replace flooring during boat renovations.
The length of the wood screws is equal to the combined thickness of the floor and the marine plywood. If the stringers and bulkheads are rotten get them replaced with fiberglass ones. Start removing the old damaged material using an electric saw to cut it. Set the repair patch in place and use the cordless drill to drive the screws and complete the repair patch.
Note if you d like to improve the final looks with a smoother finish allow the filler to harden completely and then spend an additional 30 minutes grinding it down.
