Remove vinyl wallpaper steam iron. A steamer uses boiling water to soften the glue between the wallpaper and the wall. If an inadequate amount of steam is coming out hit the steam button a few times to produce short bursts of steam. If you are removing vinyl coated wallpaper with a steamer you still have to use a scoring tool to punch holes in the paper so the steam can reach the glue. The heat from the steam will loosen the wallpaper glue allowing you to simply pull the wallpaper off.
Removing wallpaper doesn t have to be a dreaded home improvement job. The most stubborn wallpaper and glue removal method i have found. A steam iron is an effective way to remove wallpaper. Working with steam can be dangerous if you aren t careful but this is the quickest way that i have found to remove large strips of wallpaper. It s not hard but be prepared for a mess. Steam small sections at a time for maximum effectiveness. The process takes time and you may need a trowel to help scrape off stubborn wallpaper adhesive.
A steam iron must be used properly in wallpaper removal. Once the iron is hot place the iron close to the wallpaper and turn it on the steam setting. Once the paper is soaked you can scrape it away from the wall. Note that some vinyl wallpapers may not be able to take the heat or get fully steamed through the other side well enough to remove easily.
Begin using a wallpaper steamer by filling the tank with water. Once the water heats up in the steamer press the applicator against the wallpaper. Once the steam has softened the glue begin working at a seam or the edge of a perforation to remove the paper by scraping with the wallpaper scraping tool a plastic putty knife or a drywall knife. Commercial or retail store steamers are not this quick at removing wallpaper and require a lot of setup.
As soon as the ironing plate begins to emit steam hold it up to the wallpaper for about 30 seconds or until the adhesive begins to soften.
