Remove Mold Basement Carpet

If you don t have access to a steam cleaner you can scrub the carpet with a rag using a mixture of dishwashing liquid and water.

Remove mold basement carpet. Let it dry overnight. However if you used baking soda with the vinegar it will remove any odors from the carpet along with the mold. If the carpet is soaked through to the backing not just the upper fibers it may take much longer to dry. Scrub the area thoroughly until all of the residue from the mold is removed.

Using a toothbrush scrub the moldy carpet until the particles loosen from the carpet fibers. Allow the spray to dry. Apply vinegar water mixture to the carpet to remove mildew and musty smells apply a mixture of vinegar and water to the affected area of the carpet. Vacuuming is not recommended as spores.

Depending on the amount of mildew on the carpet mix one cup of white vinegar for every two cups of water. Mix four parts of water to one part of household bleach and take a stiff cleaning brush to the surface. Sun the carpet if possible. Blot any wet areas until dry then vacuum.

Use an enzymatic cleaner for mold caused by pet stains. If your carpet is removable move it outside and hang it over a sturdy clothesline. The third step for how to get rid of musty smell is to kill the mold. 24 48 hours of direct sunlight will help kill mold spores and remove moisture that encourages mold growth.

First perform a base cleaning of the carpet using a steam cleaner if possible. Using a stiff scrubbing brush apply a soap and water mixture to the area. To make matters worse mold often appears first on the carpet backing where it is not seen until it is too late. Carpet mold is nasty stuff.

Next tackle any spots of mold on the walls ceiling or floors with bleach. While mold and mildew on hard surfaces such as tile are easy to remove getting mold out of carpet fibers and backing can be difficult or even impossible. Brush these into a dustpan and discard it in a trash bag. The strong odor from the vinegar will dissipate within a few hours.

Scrub the surface of the carpet with a dry stiff bristle brush to remove the visible mold spores. Let the vinegar sit for at least an hour before blotting or scrubbing the area. To do this you can pour undiluted white vinegar into a spray bottle and heavily mist the affected areas keeping your windows open and air circulating. For tough to remove patches of mold create a paste using a cup of lemon juice and a cup of salt instead.

Vinegar is a great home remedy for absorbing stubborn odors.
