Remove Damp Under Carpet

Remove the spilt calcium chloride crystals and moisture from the carpet by vacuuming the area thoroughly with a wet dry vacuum.

Remove damp under carpet. If your carpet is removable move it outside and hang it over a sturdy clothesline. If you don t have a wet vacuum dab the damp area with towels until it s feeling a little drier. Depending on the size of the mold patch use either one or two cups of baking soda. If you do not dilute the calcium chloride the spill will get larger as it continues to absorb moisture in the air.

If the damp carpet is under a car mat remove the mat after checking to see if it contains any moisture or mold. Pulling up the carpet to pull up the carpet start by removing the baseboard or molding along the walls. Soak up all the moisture from your carpet with dry absorbent towels. Let the vinegar solution sit for about two minutes then dab away excess moisture with a dry cloth until the carpet is barely wet.

Remove as much water from the damp carpet as possible using a wet vacuum. If the carpet is soaked through to the backing not just the upper fibers it may take much longer to dry. Remove as much moisture as possible with a wet dry vacuum. If you have a wet vacuum go over the damp spot to take out as much of the moisture as possible.

This will dilute the calcium chloride. After thoroughly cleansing the area with the vinegar solution sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda over the carpet. Work in small sections at a time. 24 48 hours of direct sunlight will help kill mold spores and remove moisture that encourages mold growth.

Sun the carpet if possible.
